The Village

'CULTURE ON KINGS'

The Village is a free, fun, two-day community celebration which will run alongside the Caloundra Music Festival on 18 and 19 October.  To celebrate our diversity, The Village will showcase different elements of our local culture through interactive workshops, roaming buskers and performances on stage.  This alternative stage to the main music festival will blend local talent and cultural performances.  The Village will have a safe, communal village atmosphere where everyone is welcome to experience different cultures and participate in the celebrations in a relaxing and fun environment.  The goal of The Village is to increase the cultural capacity and celebrate our unique Sunshine Coast culture.

The Village is coordinated by a group of six members who are part of the Future Leaders program for 2008.  They are Kym Webster, Emma Jones, Tarame Christie, Jayden Weidmann, Lisa Ferrier and Jamie Hagan.  For more information on Future Leaders click here.

So what can I do at The Village?

Good question... Loads of things! Check out details on all the various areas of The Village below.

Stockland Stage

The Stockland Stage will be a major focus of The Village, showcasing a wide variety of quality music including upcoming local artists.  With a program running from 10am through until 6pm each day you can rest assure you will be entertained by the wide range of performers who take stage.  You may even witness our Mayor Mr Bob Abbot in action on stage!

Workshops

Throughout both days The Village will run several scheduled workshops for all to enjoy.  There will be a mix of workshops that run all-day where you can come and go as you please, and also other speciality workshops scheduled at certain times.  There will be something for everyone including drumming, belling dancing, arts and crafts.

Parade

The Village will kick off on Saturday with a community street parade!  Building on the success of last year's parade this year a blend of school and community groups will be mixed with performers you may very well see on stage somewhere throughout the Caloundra Music Festival.  More more information or to get involved, please send an email with PARADE in the subject line to communityevents@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au.
