George & Noriko

Melbourne, VIC
Known as the Japanese Blues Cowboy and the Tsugaru Shamisen player, George and Noriko have been kicking up a storm wherever they play. George’s lightning fast blues licks, and growling harmonica enhanced by the percussive sounds of the traditional, fretless three-string Shamisen has morphed into a kind of bluegrass hard country blues.
Since playing together they have won acclaim and a swag of awards including the Mortlake based Australian Busking Championship in 2008. They also performed at WOMADelade in 2010, the National Folk Festival in 2011, the Port Fairy Folk Festival 2012 and touring in New Zealand in 2014. On top of all this, they were also surprise finalists on Australia’s Got Talent 2012.
Their first joint album “EAST WEST” was released in 2010 and received 4 stars after being reviewed by the ABC Limelight magazine. They prove that the blues is music for everyone, all cultures and ages and are sure to get you toe tapping and dancing!
