Early in 2017, whilst working on a new studio album scheduled for release early in 2018, John and fellow JBT musicians; Byron Luiters (bass) and Grant Gerathy (drums) along with extraordinary Australian vocalist Kira Puru took to the studio with producer Jan Skubiszewski to record a brand new stand-alone track BULLY. Available globally via iTunes, Spotify and Soundcloud on August 25, 2017, the song takes aim at the BULLY and how the BULLY mentality has been unjustly inflicted on communities globally.
The John Butler Trio spent 2017 touring globally including a four week headline tour with sold out shows in Minneapolis, Grand Rapids, Salt Lake City, Vancouver, Asheville and more. They were also featured as a headliner at this year’s Lockn’ Festival, just outside of Charlottesville, and Live on The Green in Nashville. On their return home to Australia the band will perform a few shows in Australia this spring, playing alongside Midnight Oil on their The Great Circle tour opening three of The Oils biggest Australian shows. JBT start 2018 with a series of regional summer concert events and are working towards releasing their seventh studio album later in 2018.
