SUPEREGO aka POW! Negro describe themselves as a kind of happy accident of a band formed initially from high school friendships, expanding from jams and chance meetings.
The six-piece merge elements of jazz, hip-hop and psych with an aggressive vocal style that falls somewhere between the energetic bounces of Zach de la Rocha and the funk-come-street verses of Mos Def. Having built some solid supporting slots in their relatively short lifespan, including Remi, Sampa The Great, and Blackalicious, along with festival slots at Groovin the Moo and Southbound, a POW!
SUPEREGO live show is infectious, joyous and something well worth submitting yourself to. Their debut EP, Jasmine & Licorice, was released in mid 2017 to praise from industry and fans alike.
SUPEREGO were one of the highlights at BIGSOUND 2017 and rounded out the year with Gizzfest, Woodford Folk Festival and a dream support for Midnight Oil’s Perth show. 2018 is looking to be another huge year for the band with multiple festival appearances and new music on the way.
