Honesty and integrity are things that can’t be taught – you have them or you don’t. And when you are an artist, they are things all but impossible to fake. Yet listen to emerging artist Sahara Beck and it’s clear she has them in spades.
Perhaps it is because she grew up away from the buzz on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, but when you listen to her songs you can tell this is an artist coming from somewhere very real – and it’s feeling that has helped her achieve an incredible amount for an artist so young.
Now just 16, her songs and live performances have the maturity and directness of a well-seasoned musical troubadour. Her lyrics spin tales of an old soul and her voice takes you from angelic heights to ripping, almost brutal, honesty.
With her quirky demeanour and ability to weave stories from different perspectives, she has quickly developed a devoted fan base and racked up some impressive live performances at venues and festivals including the Noosa Long Weekend, the SolBar, The J, Peregian Originals, Joes Waterhole, The Caloundra Music Festival, the Brisbane Powerhouse, the Judith Wright Centre and many more.
In October 2011, Sahara released her first full-length album, Volume One. Just 15 at the time of the release, the album’s nine tracks captured a special young writer in the making and also gave her the opportunity to hone her recording skills.
In 2012, Sahara made the move to Brisbane to attend the Music Industry College, quickly making an impression on the local scene with two of her songs making it through to the Queensland Music Awards. You Could Be Happy eventually took out the the High School Category and was nominated for the overall Song of the Year alongside an impressive list of established Queensland artists.
She has gained airplay on national broadcaster Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, ABC Coast FM, HOT 91.1 and several overseas radio station s (New York, UK, Germany).
Sahara's musical growth and maturity are reflected in her new tracks, and her musical-momentum is in full swing. She is currently working on new tracks for an EP to be released in 2013.
