Forming in late 2008 the floating bridges have become one of the hardest known working bands to come out of the Sunshine coast. Hailing from among the beautiful hinterland forests of Pomona, this six piece outfit, boast a high energy live show like no other. With a multitude of diversity the band takes influences from blues, rock, funk, reggae throw in some Latin percussion and the Yidaki (Didgeridoo) and you’ve got the basic idea of what this band is all about.
After only six months of rehearsals the band entered in the Loud 09 band competition which saw entrants from Brisbane, Gold Coast and the Sunshine coast all competing for a chance to play at Loud 09 music festival held at the Gold Coast Convention centre. The floating bridges were lucky to gain a spot in the final, although unsuccessful in gaining a place, the band had the opportunity to support the likes of acts such as The Butterfly Effect, Mammal and The Funk Oars.
Recording their debut E.P. in June 2009 the floating bridges have since been busy playing shows all over south east Queensland. Ranging from venues like The Music Kafe and Ric’s Bar in Brisbane, the band have also had the chance to play at some of the Sunshine Coast’s premiere music events such as the Woodford Folk Festival, Perigian Originals and the Great Noosa Campout, supporting the likes of Colin Hay, Dallas Frasca, OKA and Timbah just to name a few. The floating bridges have just finished recording their second E.P. which is set to be released and distributed late 2010. This latest installment is set to show more of the high energy tracks that the floating bridges have become so well known for.
Now you’re probably still wondering what the floating bridges are all about. What is a floating bridge? For us it’s the rainbow. It represents the colours of the world and is a symbol for what we stand for. We as a group, people and friends, are all about respect. Respect for the land, its people and its culture. We promote the equality of all aspects of life and believe in spreading our message of reconciliation through our expression of positive energy when performing live. We’re all about good times and good people and we want to party with you as soon as we get the chance too!
So the next time you see a rainbow take it as warning because The Floating Bridges are coming to party at a venue near you, and you know it’s going to be good!
