Emerging from the Australian roots scene, Youngtree are pushing the boundaries with their original ‘progressive reggae’ sound. Weaving strands of jazz, psychedelic rock and dub with classic roots, the band from Queensland, Australia, deliver a strong conscious message.
The music of Youngtree is a dynamic fusion; often dark and politically motivated but always hopeful, the songs are defined by passionate lyrics that speak of unity and conflict, harmony and chaos, global struggles and personal experiences.
The 6-piece collective come from diverse musical background’s – Youngtree’s front man, from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, is Wayne Eden, on guitar is Paddy K, on bass is the big man, Jake Hazzard, on drums – Wayne Reid, on keys – Greg Clark, on trumpet and percussion – Azz Jensen.
In 2011 Youngtree were plucked from virtual obscurity to support Californian reggae heavyweights Groundation and they have since shared the stage with bands like Dubmarine, Darky Roots and Kingfisha. Their first festival season saw the band playing at Byron Reggaefest, Caloundra Music festival, Island Vibe Festival and Earth Frequency Festival. In summer 2013, Youngtree released their debut EP ‘Peace of Dirt’, recorded and produced by Paulie B.
